Learn about one of Dr. Tripathy’s first patients!
Dr. Tripathy was a second-year resident on her NICU rotation in October 1997 when she first met Dona Flanagan.  Dona had been born with several unexpected anomalies, including a diaphragmatic hernia and contractures of her hands and feet.   She was transferred to the NICU at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK where she was assigned to Dr. Tripathy as a patient.  Dr. Tripathy’s regular responsibilities included examining her, monitoring her vitals and labs, assisting with her medication management, and rounding with a team of doctors on her and the other NICU patients twice daily….. Common Pediatric Visits

Well Checks and Immunizations
A well check involves a doctor visit during which your child gets a thorough exam even if he or she is not sick. At this appointment your son or daughter’s height and weight are measured, located on a growth curve, and discussed. Your child’s development is also addressed as well as school performance, if applicable. Hearing and vision are typically checked at least once between 3-5 years of age. Also during the well check any necessary immunizations are given. Immunizations are key in helping prevent potentially life-threatening diseases and are very important in the maintenance of your child’s well-being. Remember, well check appointments are a great time to discuss any questions or concerns you have about your child with the pediatrician.
Sports Physicals
All schools require their athletes to obtain a physical exam prior to participation in any school sport. The goal of a sports physical is to evaluate the athlete’s general health, current fitness level, and risk of injury. Your child’s pediatrician can help identify any issues that might hinder full performance in any desired sport. Remember to bring your son or daughter’s sports physical form to the appointment; the history section will be reviewed and the exam section will be completed and signed by the pediatrician.
Vision and Hearing Screens
Vision and hearing are checked at least once between the ages of 3 and 5. However, if there is a parental or patient concern they can easily be assessed at other times. Vision and hearing screens take just a few minutes and can alert the physician to a potential problem.

Acute Care
Acute care pertains to an illness or injury with a sudden or recent onset of symptoms that requires short-term medical attention. This is a non-life threatening instance that can be addressed at the doctor’s office rather than by an unnecessary ER visit. Some common examples of acute illnesses or injuries that might need attention are sore throat, pink eye, the flu, allergic reactions, ear infections, sprains, burns and broken bones.
Care of Chronic Conditions
A chronic condition requires treatment and monitoring over a prolonged period of time, sometimes for months or even years. Chronic conditions can affect your child’s normal activities and can require hospitalization and/or care by a specialist. Your child may appear well at any given time but still be dealing with his or her medical problem. It is therefore important that this type of condition be managed and followed regularly. Some common examples include asthma, allergies, obesity, diabetes and cerebral palsy.
